Rooney Mara Talks Nightmare On Elm Street Remake

Well, folks, apparently Rooney Mara wasn’t exactly happy to get in on the Nightmare on Elm Street remake, as we discovered in a recent Entertainment Weekly interview with her.

Entertainment Weekly was talking to Mara, who recently got a big part in the remake of The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo, and not surprisingly the topic turned to her round as Nancy Holbrook. Mara, meanwhile, reportedly had this to say:

“You kind of learn to self-sabotage with thing you don’t want to get,” she tells the magazine. “Sometimes you don’t want to get something but you do a really good job and you get in anyway. That’s kind of [what happened] with A Nightmare on Elm Street-I didn’t even really want it. And then I went in [to audition] and I was like, [whispering] “F—. I definitely got that.”

Sort of a kick in the teeth, really, to discover that she thinks so little of the role that made her big, but it doesn’t really matter. She gave us a fun time in Nightmare on Elm Street, and I’ll be happy to see what this terror hottie does next. And she always will be a terror hottie.

Rooney Mara May End Up In The Oldboy Remake

If you’re looking forward to the Girl With The Dragon Tattoo remake, and liked the Nightmare On Elm Street remake, then you’ll be happy to know there’s a sweet remake terror hottie possibly coming our way into the remake of Oldboy, and it’s no less than Rooney Mara.

The remake of Oldboy is still gathering cast, as Josh Brolin is ready to take the lead, and early word says Christian Bale is ready to take the villain role (and after Patrick Bateman, well, you know he can handle it), so about the only thing missing in the big roles was Brolin’s daughter, now renamed Marie.

The plot should, hopefully, be close to the original Oldboy, and frankly, I’m hoping that it will turn out well. Considering Spike Lee is handling direction on this one, I have my doubts as I haven’t been pleased with a lot of Lee’s work. And there’s no word on when we’ll find out just how this turns out, so keep it here for all the latest.

A Second Elm Street Remake?

(Rooney Mara)

Well, by now, we’re no doubt aware that Rooney Mara has been placed as the terror hottie of choice to handle the role of Nancy in the upcoming Nightmare On Elm Street remake (reboot, reimagining, whatever.  I say they all mean the same thing, too damn unoriginal and / or lazy to go with something NEW.).  But what you may not be already aware of is that–get this–there’s likely to be a SECOND remake / reboot / reimagining / re-we’re too unoriginal and / or lazy to come up with something new for once.

The word came out of Bloody Disgusting that Rooney Mara has been signed on to TWO roles as Nancy, not just one.  Since she can’t very well play Nancy twice in one movie, the chances become very good that she’ll be handling the role in two separate films.

I’m not sure how I feel about that, frankly.  I wasn’t any too happy with Platinum Dunes’ bungling of the original Friday the 13th, and the third part of the big three, Halloween, is a smoldering ruin thanks to number three on my Crimes Against Moviegoers List, Rob Zombie.  Sure, even a broken clock is right twice a day but I confess that I don’t expect right to come out of Platinum Dunes any more.

Fresh New Nightmare On Elm Street News

(Rooney Mara)

So the reimagining—featuring terror hotties like Rooney Mara and Katie Cassidy—seems to be going ahead full steam, and initial word says that Jackie Earle Haley could be a match for Robert Englund himself.  Admittedly, this “initial word” comes directly from the producers, who seem to have either forgotten or simply don’t care that Freddy USED to be a non-joking kind of guy in his first foray but simply grew into being comic along with the terror.

The plot sounds like it’s going to be identical to the original, with dream-rampager Krueger going after the children of Springwood for revenge on his murderers, the parents of Springwood.

On the one hand, they’ve assembled a pretty solid cast and Haley, after his stint as Rorschach, definitely has the chops to do Krueger.  But on the other hand, Friday the 13th.  Yes, Nightmare on Elm Street is a Platinum Dunes operation—can they succeed where they had once failed?  Or are they doomed to keep churning out the crap?  We won’t find out, sadly, until April of 2010.

A New Nancy For A New Nightmare

(Rooney Mara)

That’s right, folks—the big one has been dropped on the Nightmare on Elm Street remake cast list, and the new Nancy has been selected.  It’s Rooney Mara, and that’s got my hackles up.

Seriously, Rooney Mara; you might, just MIGHT, mind you, remember her from Urban Legends…Bloody Mary.  Yeah, the one direct to video iteration of the franchise that fizzled.  I mean, come ON.  Seriously?  Seriously?  We’re actually putting one of the greatest iconic roles of horror (let’s face it, folks, Nancy drove Nightmare on Elm Street for a good long while) into the hands of the chick from the direct to video slasher flick that shouldn’t have existed in the first place?

If it weren’t for the fact that they got Rorschach to handle the knives I’d be downright horrified right now.  But with that, one thing’s clear—the Nightmare on Elm Street remake is operating under a MASSIVE handicap before it even gets out of the gate.

We’ll see how it turns out April 16th, 2010.
