If Only the Film Were as Sharp as Its Namesake

Georgia McKenzie and Julia Ballard are two spectacular terror hotties caught in what looks like a pretty non-spectacular movie in Steel Trap.

Dimension Extreme is getting somewhat, well, nuts with its horror releases of late, and I’m not sure what it is exactly that they’re going for.  They’re clearly out to flood the market, and they’re apparently so desperate to do so that they’re willing to pump out Saw knockoffs.

Basically, a bunch of people who really don’t know each other receive text messages from an unknown messenger telling them to go to a party on the twenty-eighth floor of an office building.  Said bunch is then trapped on the twenty-eighth floor with a psychopath with a meathook, and the only way out is to play a good old-fashioned Twisted and Sadistic Game.  I say that in all caps because the concept’s so old it’s now iconic.

And in all honesty, I’m sick to death of this.  Saw’s working its way to being as ludicrous and blood-drenched as the worst Friday the 13th iteration, and the legion of imitators grows literally by the week.  Original thinking would be very much welcome at this point, but frankly, I just don’t see it happening.
